Mike McCarthy serves as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys and is in his third campaign with the franchise. McCarthy is one of the league's most seasoned head coaches right now.
He has twice guided the Cowboys to the postseason and has a matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round tonight. Dallas ended the 2022 regular season with a 12-5 record, placing second in the NFC East behind the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even after giving two back-to-back winning seasons, Mike McCarthy might be looking for a new job next season. Rumors spread that if the Cowboys lose to the Buccaneers, owner Jerry Jones might look for other options.

Jones has refuted all rumors claiming McCarthy's firing after the Buccaneers game. While talking to the 105.3 The Fan, Jerry Jones stated:
"I’ve got a lot more to evaluate Mike McCarthy on than this playoff game."
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott was questioned on Friday regarding the future of his head coach. Prescott was completely unaware of the external talk surrounding McCarthy's job situation. He said:
"It's comical in a sense. First, what back to back 12 wins in y'all tell me how long and we're talking about a guy's job in jeopardy?"
The speculation has increased since former New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton retired after the 2021 season. It appears that McCarthy's job is safe, regardless of what happens in the postseason, or at least that's the narrative at the moment.
