At the Australian Open, he was seeded No. 31 and made it to the fourth round for the first time at a Grand Slam before falling to Karen Khachanov.
Nishioka played for Japan against Poland in the Davis Cup match following the Australian Open. He defeated Daniel Michalski in the one match he played. After suffering a groin injury in his match against Etcheverry, Nishioka did not play tennis again until the 2023 Wimbledon Championships, where he lost to Daniel Elahi Galán in the opening round.
