“You can get a job as Tom Brady’s ball boy” – Peyton Manning’s savage dig at Rob Lowe remains one of the most iconic Comedy Central roasts ever

Las Vegas Raiders v Denver Broncos
Peyton Manning had an epic comedy roast on Rob Lowe

Peyton Manning has gained more personal exposure in recent years following the creation of Manningcast, the alternative broadcast between Peyton and his younger brother, former NFL quarterback Eli Manning.

It was rare to see Peyton appearing in anything more than commercials during his playing career. However, once he retired, his comedy side started to show a lot more. One of the greatest occasions was during the Roast of Rob Lowe on Comedy Central, to which Manning was invited among a cast of stars.

While in good spirits, Manning did not hold back on his jokes. He made a point to joke about Tom Brady as well - perhaps he missed the rivalry a little bit after he retired. He took aim at Brady and Lowe, saying:

"You tried to take the air out of my retirement announcement so fast, you can probably get a job as Tom Brady's ball boy."

There are two great references in a single joke. It first went back to 2012, when Peyton left the Indianapolis Colts and signed with the Denver Broncos. Lowe tried to break the news about Manning's end of tenure in Indianapolis, but he did it terribly wrong. He said that the quarterback was instead retiring - which, obviously, wasn't the case.

But taking the air out and talking about Deflategate is another excellent joke. In 2015, there was a cloud over Tom Brady's head about whether he deflated the footballs from the 2014 AFC Championship game on purpose. After much discussion, Brady accepted a four-game suspension for the 2016 season.

Tom Brady-Peyton Manning rivalry: Which quarterback won more games?

Brady and Manning have played against each other 17 times during their careers, with the former winning 11 of those contests.

When Manning was the Colts' quarterback, Brady's Patriots had an 8-4 record. But once the former moved to the Broncos, the record ended with 3-2, again in Brady's favor.

The biggest difference in their careers had more to do with their teams than with their individual levels. Brady enjoyed a successful partnership with Bill Belichick for two decades, while Manning never had that much success with a single head coach.

Peyton retired in 2015 while Tom remains active. The former has won two Super Bowls during his career, while the latter has an NFL-record seven titles.
