Patrick Mahomes is a bona fide NFL legend and a certified future Hall of Famer. The Kansas City Chiefs QB has taken the league by storm since his debut as a starting quarterback. Within his first eight seasons—seven, to be precise, as he only played one game in 2017—he has won three Super Bowl rings and four AFC titles.

But this isn’t enough for Mahomes, who aspires to emulate the career trajectory of Tom Brady, widely regarded as the greatest of all time. Mahomes was interviewed by KCSP 610 Sports Radio in November 2020, where he shared significant details about his long-term career goals. He admitted to being influenced by Brady and Aaron Rodgers while growing up.

“You want to win as many championships as possible, and he's [Tom Brady] done that for his entire career and he's still playing great football on a great football team,” Mahomes said.

Patrick Mahomes hints at his retirement plans

Brady’s illustrious career, spanning 23 seasons, is considered the epitome of an NFL athlete's journey. He was already regarded as one of the greatest during the first half of his career but shattered expectations with a late-career resurgence, culminating in his seventh Super Bowl win with the Buccaneers at age 44, making him the oldest QB to achieve this feat. Mahomes has similar aspirations.

“The plan is to still be playing football [at 43], so hopefully I'll be able to be doing that,” Mahomes said.

Mahomes is athletic and has a strong build, thanks to his athletic genes from his father, Pat Mahomes Sr. His high school basketball record and his history as a baseball player are testaments to his physical capabilities. According to Draft Sharks, he has a low injury risk—just 11.4%. This makes it highly likely that Mahomes could continue playing into his 40s.

Patrick Mahomes wants to dominate the NFL

Unlike many other NFL athletes, Mahomes doesn’t just want to play; he wants to dominate the league.

“For me, it's about coming in day in and day out and trying to better myself and finding a way to win championships here in Kansas City," Mahomes said. "Hopefully, I can win a lot of them and try to catch the amount of titles and championship games that he's been in.”

Patrick Mahomes has remained consistent in his vision. He expressed similar sentiments during his NFL draft days. If he stays true to his ambitions and continues performing at this level, Mahomes could very well surpass many of the records Brady holds today.
