Arizona Cardinals tight end Zach Ertz is one of the franchise's primary pass catchers. The three-time Pro Bowler is a key part of the team's offense, and he has been solid in 2023 so far.
However, Ertz has dealt with injuries since joining the Cardinals from the Philadelphia Eagles in 2021. Unfortunately, the injury bug paid a visit as the Stanford University alum suffered an injury in Week 7 of the 2023 NFL season.
In this piece, we will give you an update as well as a probable return date for the pass catcher. So, without further ado, let's get to it.

Zach Ertz Injury Update
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, the Arizona Cardinals are placing Ertz on injured reserve with a quad strain suffered during their Week 7 game. Fellow insider Mike Garafolo first reported this news.
As a result of Ertz being added to the injury report, the four-time Pro Bowler will miss the next four games at the very least. However, sources state that Ertz is expected to be back before the end of the regular season.
What happened to Zach Ertz?
Ertz suffered a quad strain while representing the Cardinals in Week 7 against the Seattle Seahawks. Before the injury, the former Philadelphia Eagles pass catcher had a stat line of three receptions and 14 yards with zero touchdowns. Upon suffering the injury, Ertz promptly exited the game.
This injury marks the second serious one in just as many seasons after he suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 10 of the 2022 NFL season. He currently has 27 catches in 2023, which is the second most on the Cardinals.
When will Zach Ertz return?
The plan is for Zach Ertz to return before the end of the 2023 NFL season, as a quad strain isn't as bad as some other receiver-heavy injuries. However, the goal at the moment is to ensure that Ertz gets the necessary treatment, and that involves him staying off the gridiron until further notice.
In his place, the Cardinals will rely on the likes of Trey McBride, Geoff Swaim, and Elijah Higgins to step up. These players make up the rest of the tight end room and should see extra usage now that TE1 Ertz is out for the foreseeable future.
