Zay Flowers Height, Weight, Age, and other physical attributes explored

A top prospect in the wide receiver position for the 2023 NFL draft is Zay Flowers. He was born in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and completed his high school education at NSU University School in Florida. The 22-year-old Senior out of Boston College is a dynamite receiver who is razor-sharp for the entire duration of the game.

In each game he plays, he brings with him unbridled energy and immense intensity. An excellent route runner with several routes, he is equally adept at catching the long pass as well as making the most of the short pass. Finding separation and getting into the open areas is one of his many strengths.

There are of course few things he needs to still work on. He has had his fair share of dropped catches. Although some of those could be attributed to the lack of a good quarterback, there are others that he could have caught. He is also at a disadvantage due to his lack of size. In the Pro League, Flowers may find it difficult to deal with the physicality of the defenders if he doesn’t bulk up a little.

How tall is Zay Flowers?

At 5 feet 10 inches (1.78 mts), Zay Flowers is a short wide receiver. Most of the NFL receivers and even some cornerbacks have a few inches on him, which can prove to be a problem of sorts for him. With short height comes shorter arms. This means he does not get the reach that other players get.

A lesser catch radius is also a weakness in his game and there is no telling how effective Flowers will be with the 50-50 balls in the league. Thus, teams could look to use the speedy receiver as a slot receiver instead of a wide receiver. In his college years, Zay has shown that despite his size disadvantage, he is equally capable of playing both in the slot as well as out wide. The quickness and shakiness that he possesses do help him counter his shortcomings and that's where he stands out.

Zay Flowers’ Weight

Zay Flowers is considered to be an undersized football receiver. With short height, he was also underweight. In the past couple of months, Flowers has worked hard to bulk up his physique. Presently, he was measured at 182 lbs (83 kgs) which is still 10-12 lbs more than before.

For a smaller receiver, it will not be an easy task in the NFL where typical corners are closer to 195 lbs. The strength is a mismatch and that also shows in his run game as he does not block as much as required. Going into the NFL, he will need to develop some type of blocking game. Another area of concern could be how well he would do in the contested catches. The plus side of his weight is that he is extremely quick and has many tricks up his sleeve to find the open gaps on the turf.

Zay Flowers’ Age

Zay Flowers was born on 11 September 2000. Currently, he is 22 years old. He is in his Senior year at Boston College pursuing a major in communications.

Zay Flower’s Wingspan

Zay Flower’s wingspan is reportedly measured at around 72 inches. This is ideally 2.5-3 inches less than the average NFL player at the receiver position. A lesser wingspan and catch radius means that the quarterback will need to hit him on the money almost every time. Balls that are a bit farther from him will end up incomplete and hence the quarterback will have very less room for error.
