Zay Flowers has been Lamar Jackson's favorite deep threat ever since the Baltimore Ravens drafted him 22nd overall out of Boston College in 2023. He has only missed one game in his career - the season finale in his rookie year - as he was rested for the playoffs.
In 2024, he is continuing to impress. After a rough two-game skid to start the season, he has found his groove, with two straight 100-yard games in Weeks 5 and 6. He leads the Ravens in receptions (34) and receiving yards (412) through seven games.
Last time out against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he had only a single 11-yard catch and 19-yard rush. But the Ravens still won thanks to Rashod Bateman and Mark Andrews.
But there is concerning news out of the purple, black, and gold camp ahead of the Week 8 game at the Cleveland Browns...

Zay Flowers' injury update
On Thursday, it was reported that Flowers had missed his second straight day of practice with an ankle injury that may have emanated from an uncalled hip drop tackle on Monday (he was also out on Wednesday).
He was joined on the sidelines by rookie running back Rasheen Ali (ankle) and cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (knee) and TJ Tampa (ankle).
Two defensive players, however, were able to practice after being forced to skip Wednesday: defensive tackle Travis Jones (ankle) and cornerback Nate Wiggins (shoulder and illness). Four more were upgraded to full participants after being limited on Wednesday:
- DT Broderick Washington (knee)
- LB Malik Harrison (groin)
- CB Jalyn Armour-Davis (hamstring)
- CB Arthur Maulet (knee and hamstring)
Running back Kenyon Mitchell, meanwhile, remained limited.
Ravens' WR plans vs. Browns if Zay Flowers is ruled out
With the way things are going, it is very likely that Zay Flowers will be unable to play against the Browns, despite head coach John Harbaugh's assertions that any and all injured players "have a chance to be back."
Missing multiple days of practice does not bode well for a player's availability, so fantasy football owners should be wary.
However, the good news is that the Ravens have good depth. Nelson Agholor has had just one multi-catch game in 2024 so far (and he had just ten yards in it), but he is a former Super Bowl champion who has been a valuable veteran mentor to a young corps.
Flowers' fellow sophomore Tylan Wallace, best known for a 76-yard walk-off punt return touchdown against the Los Angeles Rams last December, is another viable option.
