Isaiah Avery “Zay” Jones, popularly known as Zay Jones is the son of former 3-time Super Bowl Champion Robert Jones. The former Raider attended Stephen F. Austin High School and enrolled to his father’s alumni East Carolina University. He broke several records like NCAA FBS all-time receptions and single-season school receptions in 4 years with the Pirates and both those records still stand to this day.
He started his career in Buffalo and recorded 1,037 yards with them before getting traded to the Raiders in the 2019 midseason. His time with Silver and Black was not a fruitful one as he could not eclipse his previous best mark of 652 receiving yards with them. However, his last year with Las Vegas saw him haul in more than 500 yards which got him a 3-year contract with the Jaguars. The Sunshine State got the best out of him as he went on to have a career season in 2022 where he caught 82 balls for 823 yards (both career-high). However, multiple injuries limited him to just 9 games in 2023. He signed a one-year contract with the Arizona Cardinals for the 2024 season.
Zay Jones Position
The 29-year-old (as of July 2024) has played both in the slot and outside in his career. Jones mentioned in his interview with Bleacher Report, that he used to line up at slot primarily for the first three years at ECU and then he played along the far hashes too in his last year at college. However, since coming into the NFL, he has taken a majority of snaps outside i.e. X or Z wideout spots.
According to Pro Football Focus, in his last two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars (2022 and 2023), Zay Jones has lined up in the slot for a total of 468 snaps. The majority of them came in 2022 (329) when he was healthy for a full season.
