Brad Williams: A Brief Biography
Brad Williams Biography
Brad Andrew Williams is a 43-year-old former Australian cricketer. He was born on 20 November 1974 in Frankston, Australia and was a right arm fast bowler. Williams was sturdily built giving him raw pace packed with accuracy which made him an effective bowler.
The cricket ball used to dance to his tunes with beautiful swing and seam which frequently ensured that batsman could not middle the ball. He stood out from his imminent peers just because of his sheer pace and control.
Background
The potential at a young age to become a star saw Williams making his first-class debut for Victoria at the age of 19 in 1994. He could not become a regular entry in the Victoria squad.
Williams in order to get more opportunities and shine changed his first-class team. In 1999, he moved to Western Australia and the transition worked wonders for him. The blistering pace of Williams ripped through the batsman's defences and he was soon in contention for the national team.
Debut
A good domestic season put Williams on the selector's radar and he soon reaped rich dividends of his hard work. Williams made his ODI debut for Australia against New Zealand at Melbourne in January 2002.
Although Williams went wicketless in the match, he was the most economical bowler for Australia in the match ending with figures of 10-2-31-0.
He made his test debut the following year against Zimbabwe at Sydney in October 2003. He took 4 wickets in the match and played only 3 test matches after this in his career.
Rise to Glory
A young 19-year-old had made his debut for Victoria and impressed everyone with his raw pace. His debut season for Western Australia where he took staggering 50 wickets saw him being the talk of the town.
The menacing fast bowler on the bouncy pitch at WACA took many wickets for Western Australia. He was being hailed as the future star of Australia.
After making his ODI debut, his first great performance came against New Zealand at Faridabad in October 2003. He led the Aussie bowling attack from the front ending up taking 4 wickets in the match and being the leading Aussie wicket-taker in the match. Australian bowlers led by Williams made a mockery of New Zealand as they were bundled out for a mere score of 97 runs.
Five days later he took his maiden 5-fer against the same opposition in the same series at Pune, where he ended up with figures of 10-1-53-5.
Records
Brad Williams could not really cement his place in the national side and ended up playing a lot of domestic cricket. In 4 test matches that he played, he took 9 wickets at an average of 45.11 whereas in 25 ODIs he took 35 wickets at 23.25.
In 69 first-class matches, Williams ended up taking 227 wickets at an average of 32.62.
Retirement
In the 2005 season, he bowled at an average of 57 and was dropped after 3 matches into the season. This resulted in him lashing out and withdrawing himself from the team to play the ING cup one day match. Western Australia suspended him for the season and did not pick him for the next season.
This ended his cricket career. He then started his own construction company by the name of Willbuildit and is a construction builder since then.
