Craig White Biography
Craig White was born on 16 December 1969. He served as a right-hand batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler for the English cricket team. He was one of the eminent all-rounders for the English cricket team.
Background
After White’s birth, his family moved to Australia for some time where he built his base of cricket and again he came back to England. He became the first-ever out-station signing for the Yorkshire cricket team.
At that time Yorkshire had a policy of signing only those cricketers who were born in Yorkshire. He was initially an off-spin bowler and later was developed as a fast-bowler. He also played for Victoria for a while.
Debut
When the Chairman of Selectors of England, Raymond Illingworth who wanted an all-rounder too bat at six and hence White made it to the national team.
White made his test debut in the year 1994 against New Zealand. The same year he made an ODI debut against Australia.
Rise to Glory
In the year 2000, he was reborn as a cricketer. After a hiatus from the English cricket team, he played against West Indies on his comeback. He had an affluent career on his return.
He scored significant runs at number seven and eight. He developed fine bowling skills and developed the art of reverse swing while also reaching speeds of 90 mph off a short run-up.
Low Points
White had a topsy-turvy beginning in his cricketing career and was dropped from the national team. Also, he had a tough time with his injuries.
Record
White made his one and only test century in the year 2001 when the English team was playing against the Indians in Ahmedabad.
In the year 2000, in Test cricket, he took 5 wickets twice against West Indies in Leeds and London.
In the same year, in the ODI he took 5 wickets against Zimbabwe and gave away 21 runs.
Retirement
White’s last appearance for the national team was at the 2003 Cricket World Cup and later he had to quit due to his prevailing injuries.
White was the President of the Royal Burton Agnes Cricket Club. Also, he coaches the Hampshire.
