Manzoor Elahi Biography

Manzoor Elahi is a former Pakistan cricketer, who was born on 15 April 1963. He was the eldest of the three brothers, with his younger siblings Zahoor Elahi and Saleem Elahi also former Pakistani cricketers.

Manzoor was a right arm medium fast bowler, who was also a handy batsman lower down the order.

Background

Manzoor did his metric in Sahiwal and that was also where he began playing cricket locally at the Montgomery Biscuit Factory ground. He went to Government College in Lahore and that's when he began playing for Pakistan Railways and then for Multan division.

Elahi played for the Pakistan U-19 team in 1982 and went on a tour of Australia with the Under-19 team.

Debut

Manzoor’s ODI and Test debut came against India in the October of 1984. In his ODI debut on 12th October at Quetta, Manzoor scored a crucial 36 runs and picked up two wickets in four overs.He was given the Man of the Match award for his performance.

In the Test debut at Faisalabad, he picked up one wicket and scored 26 runs, before he was run out.

Manzoor Elahi has played 54 ODI matches in his career and has picked up 29 wickets from 49 innings. His best bowling efforts of 3/22 in nine overs came against Sri Lanka at Colombo in the first match of 1985-1986 John Player Gold Leaf Trophy.

He has scored 741 runs from 46 ODI innings, with the highest score of 50(not out).

In Tests, however, Manzoor was not a regular in the team. In his 11-year career, Elahi has featured in just six Tests for his country. In those seven innings, Manzoor managed to pick up just seven wickets and score a mere 123 runs from 10 innings, including a half-century.

Retirement

He retired in 1995 and after that continued playing for Agriculture Development Bank of Pakistan and started his own business.
