Ryan Murphy: A Brief Biography
Ryan Murphy is an American swimmer born on 2nd July 1995. He is a native of Jacksonville of Florida in the United States. Murphy specializes in Backstroke and represents the USA in 100m and 200m Backstroke events.
Background:
Ryan Murphy was born to Pat Murphy and Katy. He was born in Palo Heights in Illinois and his parents shifted to Jacksonville in Florida, where he was raised. Ryan has two elder siblings, a sister, Shannon Murphy, and a brother, Patrick Murphy.
Ryan had an interest in swimming at a young age. He attended Bolles School in Jacksonville, where received his first swimming lesson from Sergio Lopes of Bolles School Sharks. During his time with Sharks, Ryan had shattered 26 national age group records in 100m and 200m Backstrokes, 200m, and 400m Individual Medleys, 200m Butterfly and 50m Freestyle

In 2013, after completion of high school education, Ryan Murphy joined the University of California, where he became a member of the California Golden Bears and represented them in NCAA Swimming Championships.
In 2017, Ryan Murphy graduated from the University of California with a Bachelor degree in Business Administration.
Rise to Glory:
Ryan Murphy made his senior national debut in 2013 and won two Bronze medals in 100m and 200m Backstroke at the US National Swimming Championships. The following year, he swept five Gold medals in 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, 4x50m Freestyle, 4x50m Medley, 4x100m Medley, and a Silver in 4x100m Freestyle at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships.
Between 2015 and 2017, Ryan had clinched seven NCAA titles in 100m Backstroke (3), 200m Backstroke (3), and 4x50m Medley (1) at the NCAA Division 1 Swimming Championships. In 2017, he won his first national title in 200m Backstroke and two Silver medals in 50m and 100m Backstrokes at the US National Swimming Championships.
In 2018, Ryan Murphy had swept three US national titles in 50m Backstroke, 100m Backstroke, and 200m Backstroke. He holds the world record for 100m Backstroke with the timing of 51.85s and a national record for 50m Backstroke with 24.24s.
Major Achievements:
Ryan Murphy's international breakthrough came in 2011 when he won the Bronze medal in 200m Backstroke at the World Junior Championships. The following year, he won the 4x100m Medley title and a Bronze medal in 200m Backstroke at the World Swimming Championships.
Ryan made his Olympic debut at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where he swept Gold medals in 100m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, and 4x100m Medley. At the 2018 World Swimming Championships, he had won six medals, including three Gold medals in 100m Backstroke, 4x100m Medley, and 4x50m Mixed Medley and as many Silver medals in 50m Backstroke, 200m Backstroke, and 4x50m Medley.
Between 2015 and 2019, at the World Aquatics Championships, Ryan Murphy had won three Gold medals in 4x100m Medley (2) and 4x100m Mixed Medley (1), five Silver medals in 4x100m Mixed Medley (2), 200m Backstroke (2), and 4x100m Medley (1) and a Bronze in 200m Backstroke.
Ryan Murphy will look to secure a spot on the US Olympic Team for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and shall be one of the strong contenders to win medals in 100m and 200m Backstrokes.
