Ryan Spann was raised in Westwood, Memphis, Tennessee and began practicing martial arts at a young age. He had an amateur record of 3-1 as a Middleweight and Welterweight before starting his professional career in 2013. He competed in various promotions, including the Legacy Fighting Championship and Legacy Fighting Alliance, where he held the Light Heavyweight Championship title. Prior to his participation in Dana White's Contender Series, he had amassed a professional record of 13 wins and 5 losses.
