Steve Davis: A Brief Biography
Stephen James Davis is a former English Test Cricket Match Umpire from England. Born on April 9, 1952, Davis was appointed to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires.
Umpiring career
Davis made his debut during the the third and final test match between Australia and New Zealand in November, 1997 at Hobart as it was necessary at that time to appoint the umpires from non-participating nations.
He officiated in three matches during the 2007 Cricket World Cup after which got promoted to the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires in 2008. On March 9, 2011 Steve completed his 100th ODI as an umpire standing at the World Cup group match between India and Netherlands. In 2013, during the test match between South Africa and India, Davis became the 11th umpire to complete 50 matches as an umpire.
Besides that, he has umpired in all major ICC events which includes the 2007 and 2011 World Cup, 2009 and 2013 Champions Trophy and World T20 in 2007, 2009, 2010 and. 2012.
He appeared in a total of 57 tests, 137 ODIs and 26 T20Is during his entire umpiring career.
On March 3, 2009 Davis was one of the officials who was caught in the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team by terrorists in Lahore, Pakistan.
Retirement
Steve was one of the twenty umpires to stand in matches during the 2015 World Cup. Later that year, in May, he announced his retirement after the conclusion of ODI series between England and New Zealand. On June 17 he umpired his last Match.
