What is Breaking Bad about?
Breaking Bad is set in Albuquerque, New Mexico, between 2008 and 2010. It follows Walter White, a modest high school chemistry teacher who transforms into a ruthless kingpin in the local methamphetamine drug trade, driven to financially provide for his family after being diagnosed with inoperable lung cancer.
Initially, Walter and his former student Jesse Pinkman only made small batches of meth in a rolling meth lab, but they eventually expanded to make larger batches of special blue meth that was incredibly pure and created high demand. Walter chooses the name 'Heisenberg' to disguise his identity.
Walter's drug-related activities put him at odds with his family, the Drug Enforcement Administration, and the Mexican drug cartels, including their regional distributors. This puts his and his family's lives at risk.
What happened in season 5 of Breaking Bad?
The fifth and final season focuses on the new business relationship between Walt and Jesse and Lydia, an executive from the Madrigal corporation. Joined by new hire Todd, they attempted to rob a freight train in order to gain a large supply of methylamine. When the caper turns tragic, Todd kills the sole witness, a young child.
The names of people who are aware of Walt's dealings were being pressured by the Drug Enforcement Administration. This leads to Walt killing Mike. However, Lydia already knows the names of those involved, and she enlists the help of Todd's uncle Jack, a gang leader with ties to the Aryan Brotherhood. Jack swiftly dispatches those with ties to Madrigal and Walt. The first half of the season ends with Hank finding out that Walt is Heisenberg thanks to Gales journal, which has the initials “WW”.
Walt's cancer returns when Hank discovers the truth. He warns the DEA agent to be cautious, but instead Hank starts a new investigation. Walt responds by attempting to bring suspicion onto Hank as Heisenberg.
Jesse eventually joins Hanks cause when he finds out that Walt was the one who poisoned Brock. However, Walt makes one final play: he gets Jack to kill Jesse. In a showdown in the desert, Hank seems to have the upper hand, but Jack and his gang intervene and save the day by murdering both Hank and his partner Gomez. Walt informs Jesse that he watched Jane die and that the gang is keeping Jesse as a prisoner/meth cook.
Walt goes into hiding, but he comes back to make sure that all of his money goes to his family. He further resolves the issue of Lydia's fate by poisoning her. Then he saves Jesse from the Aryan gang and Jesse kills Todd with a remote-controlled machine gun. Walt kills Jack. A stray bullet hits Walt. Jesse leaves without killing Walt and then cries in a Camino. The series ends with a wounded Walt collapsing and seemingly dying while sirens can be heard in the distance.
