Who is Liam Neeson’s wife?

English actress Natasha Jane Richardson was born on May 11, 1963, and passed away on March 18, 2009. Richardson, a Redgrave family member, was the wife of Liam Neeson, the granddaughter of Michael Redgrave and Rachel Kempson, and the daughter of actress Vanessa Redgrave and director/producer Tony Richardson.

Early in her career, she played Patty Hearst in the 1988 Paul Schrader-directed biographical film of the same name and Mary Shelley in Ken Russell's "Gothic" (1986). She subsequently won a Theatre World Award and gained praise for her Broadway debut in the 1993 revival of "Anna Christie."

Along with these films, she also starred in "The Handmaid's Tale" (1990), "Nell" (1994), "The Parent Trap" (1998), "Maid in Manhattan" (2002), and "The White Countess" (2005).

Richardson took home three awards for her portrayal of Sally Bowles in the 1998 Broadway revival of "Cabaret," including the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Actress in a Musical, and the Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical.

How did Liam Neeson’s wife pass away?

At the Mont Tremblant Resort, some 130 kilometers (81 miles) from Montreal, Richardson was taking a beginner's skiing lesson when she fell and suffered a head injury. She initially resisted receiving medical attention, but approximately two hours after the accident, she began to complain of a terrible headache.

Richardson was transported by air to Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City, where she succumbed to an epidural hematoma two days later.

In a statement released the day of her passing, Richardson's family said: "Liam Neeson, his sons, and the entire family are shocked and devastated by the tragic death of their beloved Natasha. They are profoundly grateful for the support, love, and prayers of everyone and ask for privacy during this very difficult time."

As a gesture of respect for Richardson, theater lights were darkened on March 19, 2009, on Broadway in Manhattan and on London's West End. The American Irish Historical Society in Manhattan hosted a private viewing the day after.

A private funeral was held on March 22, 2009, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Millbrook, New York, which is close to the family's residence in upstate New York.

In the churchyard, Richardson was laid to rest close to her maternal grandmother, Rachel Kempson. On May 8, 2010, Richardson's aunt, Lynn Redgrave, was also buried in the same churchyard.
