The American comedy-drama series, Succession, came to an end recently with the release of its fourth season. The show was created by Jesse Armstrong for HBO. The series' first season premiered back on June 3 2018 and the successful show continued up until 2023. Succession revolved around the Roy family, who are the owners of global media and entertainment conglomerate Waystar RoyCo and how the world of the Roy family takes a turn after their father steps down from the company. The series is a comedy-drama that focuses a lot on black comedy and satire.
Succession has been a hit series since its season one. The fans of the series were left sad after it was announced that season four of the show was its final. Why did Succession end?
Although Succession was a hit amongst the audience, the series still ended up getting over in quite a short time. When the creator of the series was asked about the reason why he decided to bid the show adieu so early, Jesse Armstrong claimed that he felt it was "natural" to end the show after season four.
During his conversation with Variety, Jesse Armstrong opened up about the ending of the series with season 4 and said, “The word that comes to mind for me is ‘natural.’ I hope people, when they see this season, will feel that it has a natural shape to it." Armstrong also added, “That’s how I pitched it to my writers’ room, kind of hoping I’d get argued out of it so we’d see a way to do more seasons because I love working with these people. I think there’s a feeling of completeness and rightness to the shape of the show.”
Jesse Armstrong also spoke about the Succession Season 4's premiere party which was also their final party as a cast and crew. Armstrong revealed that everyone was crying as they recalled their last days of shooting. He said, “It was terrible. It was a lot of people bawling our eyes out. I might start crying tonight." He also added, “It’s very, very hard to say goodbye to ‘Succession.’
