Characters from The Big Bang Theory work at the California Institute of Technology, ZanGen, and the University of California, Los Angeles.
Anyone who is an avid watcher of The Big Bang Theory knows that the major cast members work in scientific fields, though their office locations may not be known to all.
To put it simply, Sheldon (a theoretical physicist), Leonard (an experimental physicist), Howard (an engineer), and Raj (an astrophysicist) work at Caltech. Penny used to be an actress but changed professions and ended up as a pharmaceutical company’s (ZanGen) sales representative; Bernadette is a microbiologist and works as a department head at ZanGen; and Amy is a neurobiologist working at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
Sheldon Cooper (Caltech)
Sheldon, a theoretical physicist at Caltech, has an IQ of 187 and while at Caltech, he finished his PhD before beginning his employment. In addition, Cooper received the Nobel Prize for his work on the super-asymmetry of string theory with Amy's assistance. As a child prodigy, he earned a bachelor's degree, two master's degrees, and two doctorates.
Leonard Hofstadter (Caltech)
Leonard is an experimental physicist at Caltech; his brilliance as a physicist can be understood through the honors he received from some of the prestigious journals that praised and published his scientific contributions. He was even on a team put together by Stephan Hawking, called The North Sea. Leonard’s work was even applauded by his closest friends and exceptional scientists, Sheldon and Howard.

Raj Koothrappali (Caltech)
Astrophysicist Raj previously held a position at the University of Cambridge before joining the Caltech team to work on surveying and data-gathering space probes for Pluto. In the scientific community, Raj's work received praise and honor. He got to know Sheldon while working at Caltech and helped him with projects involving string theory and dark matter. Raj's advice appears to have been extremely valuable and beneficial to Sheldon.
Howard Wolowitz (Caltech)
A satellite that Howard designed orbited Jupiter and was able to control the Mars Rover. Howard is a renowned engineer with a focus on aerospace at Caltech. NASA teamed up with him because of his exceptional engineering abilities, and he went to the space station. Based on the research of Sheldon and Leonard, Howard created the Quantum Guidance System for the American Air Force.
Bernadette Rostenkowski (ZanGen)
Bernadette is a microbiologist with a PhD who oversees a department at the pharmaceutical firm ZanGen. She was formerly a waitress at The Cheesecake Factory, but now she holds a very significant position within the organization. Though all of this occurred after she finished her PhD, she made her way by virtue of talent and skill.

Penny (ZanGen)
Penny started out working for ZanGen as a sales representative. Although she admitted that she didn't enjoy fawning over doctors for cash, it made sense given how much money she was able to make. Later, she was employed by Bernadette to oversee a sales team, and she also worked in public relations. She had, however, previously tried her hand at waitressing and acting.
Amy Farrah Fowler (UCLA)
Amy is a neurobiologist and a full-time researcher at the University of California, Los Angeles. She has experience working with capuchin monkeys, most likely for scientific purposes. Her professional background isn't often mentioned on the show, though. She transferred to Caltech to conduct a study, and that’s how she met Sheldon.
Amy’s prowess in neurobiology assisted Sheldon in winning the Nobel Prize. She may still be employed by UCLA, considering that she was moved from UCLA to Caltech to only conduct research there.
