The Twilight Saga is a series of five movies about vampires based on the books by Stephenie Meyer. The series has grossed over $3.4 billion worldwide. The first movie in the series was released in November 2008. The second movie, New Moon, came out on November 20, 2009. It broke records by getting the biggest midnight screening and opening day in history and making $72.7 million. The third movie, Eclipse, came out on June 30, 2010 and it was the first movie in the series to be released in IMAX.

The series had been in development at Paramount Pictures since 2004. During this time, a screen adaptation of Twilight was written that was very different from the book. Three years later, Summit Entertainment bought the rights to the movie. The rights to the remaining novels were acquired by Summit Entertainment, after the movie made over $32 million on its opening day. The two-part adaptation of Breaking Dawn began shooting in November 2010 with release dates of November 18, 2011, and November 16, 2012.

The first movie, Twilight, was directed by Catherine Hardwicke and written by Melissa Rosenberg. The movie focuses on the relationship between Bella Swan, a teenager played by Kristen Stewart, and Edward Cullen, a vampire played by Robert Pattinson, and the Cullen families efforts to keep Bella safe from another group of vampires who want to hurt her. Edward disagrees with Bella's request to be a vampire so that they can be together forever, arguing that she should have a normal human life.
