Sheldon Cooper attended East Texas Tech for three years and graduated in 1995 at the age of 14.

Sheldon Cooper attended Medford High School before transferring to East Texas Tech at the age of 11 and earning his summa cum laude certification at the age of 14. It's not surprising that he began his college education closer to home given how protective his mother was of him and how young he was at the time. He then pursued his doctorate at the California Institute of Technology before joining Caltech, where he is currently employed as a theoretical physicist.

Starting with Sheldon babbling about a complicated science theory as an idea for a t-shirt in the pilot, The Big Bang Theory quickly established its characters as outstandingly intelligent. Their occupations and educational backgrounds played a significant role in the plot of the show as well as the characters' identities, from Penny's insecurity over leaving community college to Sheldon's egotistical issues over finishing college earlier than everyone else.

Who is Sheldon Cooper?

In the CBS television shows The Big Bang Theory and its spinoff series Young Sheldon, Sheldon Lee Cooper, Ph.D., Sc.D., is a fictional character who is portrayed by actors Jim Parsons and Iain Armitage, with Parsons serving as the narrator of the latter series. Parsons received four Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, a Television Critics Association Award, and two Critics' Choice Television Awards for his performance.

Young Sheldon focuses on the character's early years; the first season is set in 1989, when prodigy Sheldon is nine years old and has advanced five grades to begin high school alongside his older brother. Sheldon, now in his adult life, works as a senior theoretical physicist at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech).

He lived with Leonard Hofstadter (Johnny Galecki), his coworker and best friend, for the first ten seasons of The Big Bang Theory; they are also close friends and coworkers with Howard Wolowitz (Simon Helberg) and Rajesh Koothrappali (Kunal Nayyar).

His IQ is at the genius level, at 187. Even though he frequently uses irony and sarcasm, he exhibits a fundamental lack of social skills, an unsteady basic understanding of humor, and difficulty recognizing irony and sarcasm in other people. He behaves in a highly eccentric manner and lacks humility, empathy, and tolerance in general.

Some viewers claim that Sheldon's personality fits the criteria for autism spectrum disorder, also known as Asperger's syndrome. Although Parsons has said that in his opinion, Sheldon "couldn't display more traits" of Asperger's, co-creator Bill Prady has stated that Sheldon's character was neither created nor developed with regard to Asperger's.

How was the character “Sheldon” casted?

A computer programmer that Bill Prady, the co-creator of the series, personally knew served as the model for Sheldon Cooper. He and his friend Leonard Hofstadter were given their last names in honor of Nobel Prize winner Leon Cooper and actor and producer Sheldon Leonard.

Initially, Johnny Galecki was offered the role of "Sheldon," but Galecki believed he would be "better suited" for the role of Leonard. Jim Parsons' audition for the part was "so startlingly good," according to Lorre, that a second round was requested "to make sure he hadn't gotten lucky."

Does Sheldon really have Asperger’s Syndrome?

It has been claimed by some viewers that Sheldon's actions are in line with the Asperger's syndrome subtype of the autism spectrum. The authors have admitted that they did not use it as inspiration for the character but rather considered his actions to be "Sheldony."

According to Bill Prady, who co-created the series, "We write the character as the character." "Many people connect the dots between him and various things they see; we don't believe we have a diagnosis because Sheldon's mother never received one."

Sheldon shares traits with people who have Asperger's syndrome, but Prady said he was uncomfortable referring to Sheldon as having the syndrome in an interview with Alan Sepinwall of the New Jersey Star-Ledger. Jim Parsons mentioned the writers' response in an interview, but he also stated that, in his view, Sheldon "couldn't display more traits" of Asperger's.

The majority of what Parsons read in John Elder Robinson's autobiography, “Look Me in the Eye,” about his life with Asperger syndrome, "touched on aspects of Sheldon," he said, adding that "it's easy for people watching the show to think he's autistic because of the way his brain works, it's so focused on the intellectual topics at hand."
