Shae was introduced to Tyrion in season 1 and was described as beautiful with a quick sense of humor and a taste for the pleasantries of life. As they spend more time together, he falls deeply in love with her and makes arrangements for her to stay in King’s Landing, despite being aware of the disapproval of his father. Once in Kings Landing, Tywin becomes aware of their relationship and voices his disagreement with Tyrion. Tyrion tries to convince Shae to leave Kings Landing for her own safety, but she gets jealous because she starts to suspect that Tyrion might be falling in love with Sansa. In the heated argument, Tyrion ends up calling her a whore, which deeply upsets her.

The plotline with Shae is again brought back to life during Tyrion's trial for Joffrey Baratheon’s murder at his wedding. During the trial, Tyrion realizes her true intentions as she confesses against him. Tyrion, fueled with rage after the trial, decides to go to his father’s chamber, where he discovers that Shae has also been sharing a bed with his father, Tywin, which enrages him even more and leads to him to kill Shae with the gold necklace he also wore during his time in office.
