According to the makers of the series, the recently released movie is technically season 7 of Teen Wolf.
During the ongoing buzz of the now-released film, ComicBook reported that David told SFX Magazine that the film fits the entire plot which technically worked as the show's seventh season. The film was also made to give the fandom some memorable moments.
While talking about the film, David told SFX Magazine, "A colossal undertaking. The first cut was three hours long. Part of that is you have so many characters to service. By the end of writing the movie, I kind of realized, 'Oh my god. This is basically season seven all in one movie.' We packed a lot into this movie. It was trying to give the fans big moments, tear-jerking moments and funny moments, while giving them throwbacks to what the show was, but also a few new things like Vince Mattis, who plays Eli, Derek Hale’s son."
Why was the Teen Wolf series canceled?

The cancellation of the MTV series Teen Wolf after its sixth season came as a huge shock for all the fans out there. Unfortunately, there's never been an official reason given on why they decided to cancel the series abruptly.
However, an assumption can be made that the sudden decision to stop the series was primarily due to its low ratings. Not just that, in 2016, MTV began to shift its content to unscripted programs, which may have also played a huge reason for them ending Teen Wolf after season six.
Will there be another Teen Wolf movie?

The probability of that is slim to none as the makers do not have any current plans to produce another Teen Wolf movie. However, fans would be happy to know that the lead Tyler Posey and Crystal Reed definitely feel like they need to make another Teen Wolf movie to explore other chapters of Scott and Allison's lives.
During their interview with Screen Rant, Tyler Posey and Crystal Reed spoke about why another Teen Wolf series was necessary. Tyler Posey said, "It's definitely not the perfect ending. I think it lends itself to more, I want more. I think it would be interesting to now see how they live their lives as adults. We got to see them as teenagers. We got to see them for two days as adults, but they were distracted, by all this chaos. I really want to see them get into the depression, the anxiety, the weight, the heaviness of being an adult that comes with it, and real-life adult scenarios. Not just saving your friends' lives, but dealing with s--t that needs to be dealt with. So I think that would be really interesting to do."
Posey's co-star Crystal Reed backed him up and added, "Maybe like mental health or psychological aspects would be really interesting. And it could help people."
