Simone Manuel is an American freestyle swimmer. She won a gold medal alongside Penny Oleksiak in the women's 100m freestyle to become the first Black American woman to land an individual Olympic swimming title at the 2-16 Rio Olympic Games. She also secured a silver in the 50-meter freestyle. Manuel’s helped the USA team earn a gold medal in the women's 4x100m medley, and a silver medal in the women's 4x100m freestyle team. In the 2024 Summer Olympic Games, she won two silver medals in the Women's 4x100m Freestyle Relay and Women's 4x200m Freestyle Relay.

Manuel became the first female American swimmer to win both the 50m and 100m freestyle gold medals at a single championship in the 2019 World Championships in Gwangju. She was the most won by any female swimmer ever at a World Championships having won a total of seven medals which includes four gold and three silver. Before the 2020 Takoyo Olympics which was held in 2021 due to Covid-19, She revealed that she had been diagnosed with Over-training syndrome. Despite such a problem, she managed to secure a bronze medal in the winning women's 4x100m freestyle relay.
