Team Penske was established in 1968 by Roger Penske and used to compete in the IndyCar series during its starting days. The organization first competed in 1969 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Mark Donohue was the first driver to compete for Team Penske in IndyCar and earned the Rookie of the Year honors in 1969. Team Penske has participated in the IndyCar series for over 40 years, earning 243 race wins and six drivers’ championships. They have achieved 302 pole positions in the series and 20 Indianapolis 500 wins, also an IndyCar record. The team last won an IndyCar championship in 2022 winning the IndyCar championship with Will Power.

Roger Penske, the founder and owner of Penske Corporation is the owner of Team Penske. He is a businessman and retired professional driver. Roger also has involvement in IndyCar, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and other motorsport businesses. Penske was inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution to the American motorsports genre. Roger Penske has won six IndyCar championships and 5 NASCAR Cup Series championships as a team owner.

Roger Searle Penske was born on February 20, 1937, in Ohio in the United States. Penske was inspired by his father who was also an entrepreneur. He started buying old cars and selling them for profit after repairing them as a teenager. Penske graduated from Lehigh University in 1959. Roger Penske was awarded the SCCA Driver of the Year in 1961 by Sports Illustrated.

Tim Cindric is the president of Team Penske. He is the father of NASCAR Cup Series driver Austin Cindric. Tim Cindric has been a part of Team Penske since October 1999 and was promoted to president in 2006. Tim Cindric is also a strategist for the IndyCar team of Team Penske. He is a native of Indianapolis and was born on April 20, 1968. Tim Cindric is an alumnus of the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.

Team Penske Managing Director

Ron Ruzewski is the managing director of Team Penske. He joined the team in 2005 and has been working as crew chief for their IndyCar team since 2022. He was appointed as the organization’s managing director before the 2019 season. Ron Ruzewski worked at Yamaha Motor Corporation from 1996 to 2005 serving as their department manager for Advanced Development in their Snowmobile wing. He is a graduate of Purdue University in Industrial Engineering. Ruzewski has two children, Taylor and Kenzie with his wife Kim.

Kyle Moyer works as the race strategist and crew chief for Team Penske’s IndyCar operations. Kyle Moyer joined the team in 2015 and went on to win two Indy 500s with the team before getting promoted to the role of General Manager in 2019. Moyer was previously a part of Andretti’s IndyCar program. He served the team for 20 years and was the director of operations. Kyle Moyer has more than 30 years of experience in motorsport teams. He resides in Mooresville, North Carolina with his wife Tracy.
