Alexander Zverev is a German professional tennis player, and widely regarded as among the best tennis players in the world. At the age of 20, he became the youngest player to debut in the Top 20 since Novak Djokovic. Since then, he has climbed up the rankings, reaching as high as No. 2 (current ranking) in the world. Zverev has an aggressive game style, including a bazooka serve and pounding groundstrokes.

His Grand Slam achievements include reaching the final of the 2025 Australian Open, the 2024 French Open and the 2020 US Open and the semifinals of the French Open in (2021, 2022, and 2023) and he has also won an Olympic gold medal. Zverev has won 23 singles and two doubles ATP Tour titles to date, including the 2024 Paris Masters, 2024 Italian Open, 2021 Cincinnati Open.

At the 2025 Australian Open semifinal, he received a walkover from Novak Djokovic after he suffered from a muscle tear. In the final, he was defeated by Jannik Sinner by 6-3, 7-6, 6-3. For making it to the tournament finals, he received approximately A$1.9 million in prize money.

Born in Hamburg, Germany, 'Sascha' began playing tennis at the age of 5. He has idolized Roger Federer growing up, and has also defeated him during the course of his career. In 2021, Alexander Zverev was awarded the German Sports Personality of the Year Award. In late 2024, he won the Laver Cup with Team Europe.

Alexander Zverev was born to father Alexander Mikhailovich Zverev and mother Irina Zvereva in Hamburg, Germany. He comes from a sporting background as both his parents represented the Soviet Union as professional tennis players.

Zverev got easy access to tennis as a young boy as both his parents continued playing recreationally, and were well-versed with the sport. He was introduced to the game at the age of five. The German was extremely competitive as a child and also indulged in sports like football and hockey. He decided to concentrate on tennis solely after a disappointing loss at an international junior tennis tournament in Florida, United States.

Alexander MIkhailovich Zverev is Alexander Zverev’s father. He was also a professional tennis player who represented the Soviet Union in the 1970’s and 1980’s. Mikhailovich made his appearance for the Soviet Union Team in the 1979 Davis Cup.

He won a bronze medal at the 1983 Summer Universiade and a gold medal at the 1984 Friendship Games. The Russian made three appearances in major tournaments (Australian Open, Wimbledon, French Open) but could not move past the first round in any of those appearances.

Alexander Zverev Mother

Irina Zverev is Alexander Zverev’s mother. She was also a professional tennis player who represented the Soviet Union in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. Her career was limited while living in the Soviet Union as the government restricted tennis players from competing internationally. Once the Soviet Union collapsed in 1991, Irina traveled to Germany to compete at tournaments on the ITF circuit.

Mrs. Zverev reached five singles finals on the ITF circuit, out of which three were in Germany and two of were in Greece. An interesting fact about her career was that she won her last runners-up trophy against Apostoli Tsitsipas, who is Stefanos Tsitsipas’ mother. Zverev and Tsitsipas are currently among the top 10 players on the men’s tour.
