Polmans was an excellent junior player and won the Australian Open boys' doubles title with fellow Australian Jake Delaney in 2015. He made his ATP tour debut at the Croatia Open in 2017 and grand slam debut in 2019 at the Australian Open, where he lost in the first round. He won his first ATP singles main draw match at the Washington Open in July 2019.

Polmans achieved good success in doubles in his early career. He made the Australian Open semifinal in 2017 with Andrew Whittington. He has also reached the semifinal of the Australian Open in mixed doubles twice in 2021 and 2023.
