Does Maria Sakkari Have a Sister?

Maria Sakkari is a Greek tennis player who is ranked No. 8 in singles by the WTA as of July 2024. She achieved a career-high ranking of No. 3 in March 2022 and has won two singles titles till date, including the 2019 Morocco Open, where she defeated Johanna Konta in the final, and the 2023 Guadalajara Open, where she defeated Caroline Dolehide in the final.

Sakkari turned pro in 2015 and made her WTA debut at the 2015 Rio Open, where she lost in the first qualifying round. She made her main draw debut at the US Open in 2015, where she lost in the first round.

Sakkari rose to fame after reaching the 2021 French Open semifinals, where she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in three tight sets. She also reached the US Open semifinals that year, losing to Emma Raducanu. She is the first Greek women’s player to reach the semifinal at two majors.

Her other achievements include finishing semifinalist at the 2021 and 2022 WTA Finals. Sakkari started her current season by competing in team competition at the 2024 United Cup. She won all her matches in straight sets against Angelique Kerber, Leylah Fernandez and Daniela Seguel. She has also made the final at Indian Wells in 2024, as well as the last four in Charleston.

Amanda Sakkari is Maria Sakkari’s sister. She is four years younger than Maria Sakkari. Amanda is currently pursuing a graduate course in Film and Marketing at The New School in Manhattan. Before that, she studied at Boston University. She has worked as a project manager for a private firm and has experience working with a startup. A few months back, Amanda attended a woman plus media summit organized by the Ford Foundation.

Amanda was often seen in the player box of Maria Sakkari during the matches. She even shared in an interview that she was shaking watching her sister play live. She was stressed seeing her sister suffer on the court. However, when fans in the stadium started cheering for Maria, she felt her sister was the best at her job.
