Maria Sakkari is a Greek tennis player who is ranked No. 8 in singles by the WTA as of July 2024. She achieved a career-high ranking of No. 3 in March 2022 and has won two singles titles till date, including the 2019 Morocco Open, where she defeated Johanna Konta in the final, and the 2023 Guadalajara Open, where she defeated Caroline Dolehide in the final.
Sakkari turned pro in 2015 and made her WTA debut at the 2015 Rio Open, where she lost in the first qualifying round. She made her main draw debut at the US Open in 2015, where she lost in the first round.
Sakkari rose to fame after reaching the 2021 French Open semifinals, where she lost to Barbora Krejcikova in three tight sets. She also reached the US Open semifinals that year, losing to Emma Raducanu. She is the first Greek women’s player to reach the semifinal at two majors.
