He has won six ATP titles to date, including two in 2024, and is ranked No. 27 by the ATP as of late 2024. Baez registered his best major result at the 2023 US Open and 2024 Australian Open, where he reached the third round. He registered his first win over a Top-10 player at the 2022 Bastad Open, defeating Andrey Rublev in the semifinal.

The 2024 season was quite successful for Sebastian Baez as he won his maiden ATP 500 title at the 2024 Rio Open, defeating Mariano Navone in the final in straight sets. Within a week, he won his second ATP title of the season at the 2024 Chile Open, defeating home favorite Alejandro Tabilo in the final. Baez has won five Challenger tour titles in a season, thus becoming the youngest player in history to achieve such a feat. He was mentored by former World No. 3 player Juan Martin del Potro. Baez has also won a gold medal in men's doubles at the 2018 Summer Youth Olympics.

Baez is a right-handed player who has won five ITF titles in the single category and one ITF title in the doubles category. He is the top-ranked junior champion on the ITF circuit. He played his first ATP match at the 2021 Chile Open, where Holger Rune defeated him in straight sets. He won his first match at the 2021 Hamburg European Open, defeating Corentin Moutet in the first round.
