Mark Stone’s Jersey Number

Mark Stone is wearing number #61 for the Vegas Golden Knights. Mark Stone initially wore No. 16 with the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings, a number handed down by coach Kelly McCrimmon. When Stone joined the AHL's Binghamton Senators, he retained No. 16 until Clarke MacArthur claimed it upon joining the Ottawa Senators in 2013. Mark Stone switched to wearing No. 61 in the NHL after the Ottawa Senators signed Clarke MacArthur in 2013, taking Stone's original No. 16. He has continued to wear No. 61 since then, even after joining the Vegas Golden Knights.

Mark Stone's NHL Journey

He made his NHL debut with the Senators in the 2012–13 season and played for them until he was traded to the Golden Knights in 2018. He solidified his place in the team, earning recognition as a Calder Trophy candidate for his rookie performance. He signed a three-year contract extension with the Senators on June 25, 2015, with an average annual salary of $3.5 million. During the 2015–16 season, he played in most of the Senators' games, scoring 61 points in 75 games. Stone led the NHL in takeaways for the second-straight season and performed well after the All-Star Game break. In the 2016–17 season, Stone scored 54 points in 71 games and led the NHL in takeaways for the third consecutive season. Despite injuries in the 2017–18 season, Stone had a productive year with 62 points in 58 games. However, contract negotiations resulted in an arbitration decision granting him a one-year extension, turning him into an unrestricted free agent in the subsequent offseason.

In 2019, Stone was traded to the Vegas Golden Knights, securing his place with an eight-year, $76 million contract. He excelled in the 2018-19 season, leading the league in takeaways and earning a Selke Trophy finalist spot. Stone's impactful play continued into the 2019 Stanley Cup playoffs, where he recorded his first career hat-trick.

As one of the alternate captains, Stone was named the first captain in Vegas Golden Knights history in the 2021 season. Despite a successful regular season, the team faced playoff disappointment, with Stone receiving criticism for his performance in the semi-finals against the Montreal Canadiens. Stone struggled with back issues throughout the 2021-22 season, eventually undergoing a lumbar discectomy in May 2022. Although he returned for the 2022-23 season, a reinjury in February 2023 raised concerns about his playing career. Stone missed the remainder of the regular season but played a key role in the Golden Knights' successful run to the 2023 Stanley Cup Finals, where he scored a historic hat trick in Game 5.
