Horses are used as a major component of equestrian sports, which typically involve riding a horse or the horse pulling a vehicle. Equestrian sports include a number of different disciplines, but only five are represented in the Olympics: dressage, driving, jumping, eventing, and vaulting, all of which are overseen by the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI).

It's been taking place at the Olympics since 1912, while team events were added in 1928. Until 1948, only men and military officers were allowed to compete in equestrian sports events. However, in 1952, dressage became an open event for athletes of any gender.
At the equestrian dressage events, the USA has won 10 events, including eight bronzes and two silvers, but no gold, Germany tops the medal table with 32 total, including 15 golds.

List of Equestrian Jumping USA medalists
The purpose of equestrian jumping is to get the horse and rider over a sequence of obstacles in a clean and orderly manner. Every horse and rider begins with a perfect score of 0, and there are penalties for not clearing a fence neatly or for crashing a fence. If completing the course takes longer than expected, time penalties could potentially be applied.
Olympic jumping competitions include both individual and team events. Every event consists of multiple rounds, with a "cut" following each round to eliminate the teams or competitors who performed the lowest. The tournament is won by the horse/rider team with the fewest penalties.
Since its debut at the 1912 Olympics, equestrian jumping has been a popular sport. From 1948 until 1956, Olympic equestrian competitions were restricted to men and military officers; however, in 1956, women were allowed to participate.
The USA has won a total of 19 medals, including five golds, while the table is topped by Germany with a total of 17 medals but 10 golds, thus having the upper hand on the medal table. France is between these two with 17 total, including seven golds.

List of Equestrian Eventing USA medalists
Equestrian eventing is an all-around competition consisting of two distinct disciplines, dressage and jumping, added to a third competition that involves riding a cross-country course. The origins of eventing can be traced back to a demanding cavalry test that called for mastery in multiple riding styles.
The Olympic discipline of eventing made its debut in 1912 and has since been a regular feature of the Olympic Games, including both individual and team events. However, Olympic equestrian eventing competitions were limited to men and military officers from 1912 to 1948; four years later, the compulsion of military officers was removed, but women were allowed in 1964.
At the equestrian eventing, the USA has a total of 25 medals, including six golds, while Germany is at the top of the medal table with 21 total, including eight golds. Though, Sweden has only 14 total medals, seven of them are gold, which makes it the second country at the medal table.
