Devonta Smith is a wide receiver who plays in the NFL for the Philadelphia Eagles as of 2024. He was selected tenth overall in the 2021 NFL Draft. In his rookie season, he set the Eagles' record for most receiving yards by a rookie, finishing with 916 yards and five touchdowns. Smith's impressive performances continued in 2022, with 95 catches for 1,196 yards and seven touchdowns, and notable plays in the playoffs, including a key reception in the NFC Championship. In 2023, he added 1,066 yards and seven touchdowns to his resume. In April 2024, Smith signed a three-year, $75 million contract extension, securing his future with the Eagles. He has 487 receiving yards through the first ten weeks of the 2024 NFL season. Devonta attended Amite High Magnet School in his hometown. During his high school days, he was part of both the football and the basketball teams. In both sports, Smith was always considered to be too small to play, but he persevered and was able to earn his place on the teams. Scout and 247Sports both rated him as a five-star prospect coming out of high school. Smith started his college career at the University of Alabama. Although he did not receive much game time as a freshman, he made probably the single most important contribution of the season when he caught a 41-yard touchdown pass which secured the Crimson Tide’s National Championship over Georgia. His breakthrough came in his junior year as he caught 68 passes for 1,256 yards and 14 touchdowns. His most effective year was his senior year where he caught 117 receptions for 1,856 yards and had 23 touchdowns. Some of his highlights from his senior year include being the first wide receiver to win the AP Player of the Year award. He also became the first receiver to win the Heisman Trophy in 2020 after Desmond Howard won it back in 1991.
