Jalen Hurts is arguably one of the top-tier quarterbacks in the NFL and was ranked the 3rd best player in the entire league, going into the 2023 season by his peers on NFL Top-100. He was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the second round of the 2020 NFL draft. The Eagles forgot about the huge QB signing they just made with Carson Wentz, and drafted Hurts which was very surprising to the fans.
In 2022, he took the Eagles, all the way to the Super Bowl. They started the season with an 8-0 record which was the best record for a quarterback in Eagles’ history. Because the Eagles had some of the greatest quarterbacks to play for them and the franchise that started in 1933, that is a great feat that Hurts has accomplished. Hurts finished second in MVP voting in 2022 season, just behind Patrick Mahomes, and managed to turn the franchise around after departure of Doug Pederson. However, 2023 was a disappointment for Hurts as not only his team got blown out against the Buccaneers in the Wild Card round but individually too, Hurts threw 15 interceptions (a career-high) in the regular season. After starting 10-1, Hurts led Eagles lost 5 out of the next 6 games, which made them finish 2nd in their division with a 11-6 record.
Jalen Hurts’ Super Bowl 2023
Hurts dominated the Super Bowl LVII offensively for the Eagles but it was not enough to overcome Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs. Hurts delivered a performance for the ages where he had a passer rating of 103.4 with 304 yards and 1 touchdown. He also set the record for most rushing yards by a QB in the Super Bowl. The final score was 35-38 in a loss to the Chiefs. Hurts was the first quarterback to lose the Super Bowl while leading his team to 35 points.
