During his college football career with Southern Methodist University (SMU), Rice played 10 games for the 2019 season and had 25 receptions for 403 yards and one touchdown. In the 2021 season, Rice posted 64 receptions for 670 yards and nine touchdowns and was named as honorable mention for All-American Athletic Conference team, just a little shy of making the team. However, this fueled Rice as in his final college season, he went out with a bang and had 96 receptions, 1,355 receiving yards, and ten receiving touchdowns.

His elite numbers made the Kansas City Chiefs draft him in the second round and so far he has looked like a steal. Rice is one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets for a variety of reasons. Firstly, Rice displayed great hands throughout the season and caught 77.5 percent of his catches in the 2023 season. He also perfectly fits the modern wide receiver’s requirement in terms of height (6’2”) and weight (6’2*). He also has great route running skills giving the Chiefs another weapon to go to when needed.
