Caleb Martin is one of those undrafted players who turned out to be one of the best roster pieces for the Miami Heat. Last season when Miami reached the NBA finals, they could not have done it without him. Pat Riley, basketball executive for the Heat, has a keen eye for a great role player, and he did it again when he signed Martin.
He initially played for the Charlotte Hornets for two seasons before signing with the Heat. To understand his productivity from last season’s playoff run, Martin had a double-digit scoring night in 17 of the total 23 games he played in the playoffs. He was one of the most essential pieces for the Heat to make it out of the Eastern Conference and play in the NBA finals. Every time, the Heat somehow find players who do not look so good in the regular season but can absolutely pour buckets when it counts the most.
The Heat had, at first, signed Martin to a two-way contract (as they have done so with many players) but changed it to a standard contract on February 15th, 2022. The first time he went to the playoffs with the Heat was in 2022. Martin only averaged 4.5 points on 40.0 percent shooting from the field but in the last postseason, he averaged 12.7 points on 52.9 percent from the field.
Martin’s stellar growth earned him a recent contract of a 3-year $20,408,850 million deal. While he has not played great this season, his postseason heroics are what the Heat really count on.
Caleb Martin Brother
Martin has a brother who also plays in the NBA and his name is Cody Martin. The identical twins were born on 28th September 1995. They were the only set of identical twins who first played together in the NBA.
While Caleb Martin went undrafted in the NBA, Cody was picked by the Charlotte Hornets in the 2019 NBA draft in round 2 as the 36th pick. Cody Martin is currently injured and has not laced up since January 14th, 2023 due to a knee injury. Both the twins play the small forward spot.
The Martin twins previously played for prep powerhouse Oak Hill Academy and Davie County High School. Later they both decided to join North Carolina State University to play their college basketball.
Their careers in the NBA have been decent so far. Caleb has already established himself as one of the best role players in the NBA but Cody still needs to prove that he belongs in the league. Both the twins have always done everything together; from changing schools, colleges, and NBA Draft Combine, to joining the NBA.
