Chris Finch is a former Basketball player and the current coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves in the NBA. Growing up, Finch instantly took to Basketball and was a standout contributor for his high school team. After graduating from Wilson High School, Chris joined Franklin and Marshall College in 1988.

In his four years playing for the F&M college men’s basketball team known as the Diplomats, Finch was instrumental in leading the Diplomats to become the Mid-Atlantic Conference (MAC) Southwest Champions (four times), the MAC Champions (three times), the NCAA final four and elite eight births (x2) and the NCAA finals in 1991.

Finch’s performances also helped him win multiple accolades which included the 1989 MAC and ECAC (Eastern College Athletic Conference) Rookie of the Year award, the MAC Southwest All-Star (1990-1992), and the ECAC All-Star (1990-1992). In 2002, Finch was inducted into the Franklin and Marshall College Sports Hall of Fame.

After going unpicked in the 1992 NBA Draft, Chris made the decision to play overseas in the British Basketball League for the Sheffield Sharks. Finch surprisingly retired after only four years as a professional in 1997 and soon after, began his long-term career as a coach.

Chris Finch Contract Details

Finch reportedly earns between three million and five million dollars as the Timberwolves head coach. Previously a part of the Toronto Raptors coaching staff, Finch was brought in as a replacement for interim head coach Ryan Saunders.

In his first full season as head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves, Finch finished his season with a 46-26 regular season record and led the Timberwolves to their first playoff series since 2018. In April 2022, the Timberwolves signed coach Finch to a multi-year contract extension and as per team policy, the specifics of the contract were kept undisclosed.

During his time as Assistant coach for the Raptors, Finch was instrumental in improving the team’s offensive rankings and scoring potential.

Finch was first welcomed in the NBA as head coach for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in 2009 and guided the team to their first-ever NBA D League (now the G League) Championship in 2010. Finch’s hard work was deeply appreciated which led to him winning the D League Coach of the Year award that same year.

In July 2011, Finch was called up to the main league by the Houston Rockets where he continued for five years before serving his next four seasons as associate head coach of the Denver Nuggets and the New Orleans Pelicans.

Chris Finch has a stacked Timberwolves roster in his hands. If his guidance and coaching can hopefully develop the team into strong playoff contenders, he might earn another contract extension down the line.
