Born on January 4, 1999, Sexton attended Hillgrove High School before transferring to Pebblebrook High School in Mableton, Georgia, where he helped his team to win the 2016 Georgia Region 3-6A title, while averaging 23.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game. In his senior season, he averaged 32.6 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 2.7 steals per game, and was named 2017 First-Team All-State and Class 7A Player of the Year.
For college, Sexton committed to University of Alabama, where he averaged 19.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game in 33 appearances. After one season in college, he declared for the 2018 NBA Draft, where he was selected with the eighth overall pick by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Now in his sixth NBA season, Sexton played 48 games for the Jazz in the 2022/23 season and averaged 14.3 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.
