Frank Ntilikina is a French national basketball player, currently playing for the Charlotte Hornets. Ntilikina was born on 28th July 1998 to Rwandan parents in Ixelles, Belgium, and then moved to France at the age of three where he then became a French national. He began playing youth basketball for St. Joseph Strasbourg before transferring to Strasbourg IG’s youth academy when he was 15.
In 2015, Ntilikina signed a 4-year deal with SIG Strasbourg and he played 2 seasons with them before opting out of his deal and declaring for the 2017 NBA draft. In the 2017 NBA draft, Ntilikina was projected to be a lottery pick. There was a lot of speculation that Mark Cuban would draft Ntilikina to the Mavs with the 9th overall pick. But the Knicks jumped at the opportunity of Cuban saying Ntilikina is a ‘pass-first point guard’ and a ‘valuable asset for a rebuild’ and picked him with the 8th overall pick. This left the Mavs to choose Dennis Smith Jr. with the 9th overall pick.
Ever since Frank Ntilikina made his NBA debut, it became very clear what type of player he was. A very erratic player on offense and a hard-nosed in-your-face type of defensive player. And it is with his defense that Ntilikina has managed to carve out a name for himself in this league. Every team he signs with or gets traded to keeps him for his defense and calls his number every time they need to stop a guard who can become dangerous and score a bunch of points. So far, Ntilikina has played for the New York Knicks, the Dallas Mavericks, and the Charlotte Hornets. The only thing keeping Ntilikina a bench rotational player and not an NBA starter is his lackluster offense. He struggles to shoot the ball every season and even after strong outings, gets demoted to the bench due to the inconsistency in his performance.
