John Collins

John Martin Collins III is an American professional basketball player for the Utah Jazz. Born on September 23, 1997, Collins is the son of John Collins Jr. and Lyria Rissing-Collins, both with ties to the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Due to his parents' military backgrounds, Collins lived across many places such as the Virgin Islands, Guam, and Turkey. Eventually, his family settled in West Palm Beach, Florida where Collins attended Cardinal Newman High School and became a basketball star.

Collins later played college ball for two years at Wake Forest, and emerged as an athletic forward who could move like a guard. He was eventually selected with the 19th overall pick in 2017 by the Atlanta Hawks. Collins quickly became a fan favorite in Atlanta, showcasing some outrageous poster dunks and reliable 3-point shooting.

His third season, however, faced controversy as Collins was suspended by the NBA for 25 games without pay on November 5, 2019, for violating the league's anti-drug policy. The substance in question was pralmorelin, a growth hormone-releasing peptide 2 (GHRP-2). Despite the setback, Collins made a strong comeback and played a pivotal role in the Hawks' impressive run to the 2021 Eastern Conference Finals.

In the 2023 off season, a significant trade occurred as Collins was traded to his hometown team, the Utah Jazz.
