The 6 feet 4 inches tall shooter Jones was born on July 21, 1998, in Dallas, Texas, where he first attended Triple A Academy. However, he later transferred to Link Year Prep High School in Branson, Missouri. Similarly, Jones played for two college teams — Connors State College in the 2017–2018 season and then for the University of Arkansas from 2018 to 2020.

Jones was a First-team All-SEC and SEC co-Player of the Year during the junior year of his college. He declared for the 2020 NBA draft but went undrafted.
