Pritchard's basketball journey began at West Linn High School in West Linn, Oregon where he led the team to four consecutive state titles and earned a notable 4-star rating from ESPN.

After a successful high school career, Prithcard decided to attend Oregon University, and he quickly started making waves as a freshman for the Oregon Ducks basketball team during the 2016-17 season. Despite being a freshman, he played a significant role for the Ducks that year. Pritchard was the only freshman to start in the Final Four appearance that year, which showcased his potential.

In his sophomore year, Pritchard averaged 14.5 points, 4.8 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game as he became the only returning starter for the Ducks from the previous season. He demonstrated significant growth in sophomore year and emerged as a key player for the team.

Although he faced challenges with injuries in his junior year, Pritchard bounced back with resilience, leading Oregon to the Pac-12 Tournament Championship and a berth in the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament. Pritchard's remarkable college achievements proved that he has the talent to succeed in the bright lights of the NBA, therefore the Boston Celtics selected him with the 26th pick in the 2020 NBA draft. Melissa Prtichard is Payton Pritchard's mother. She is from Portland. Melissa met Terry at the University of Oklahoma, where she competed for the gymnastics team. Their relationship blossomed into marriage, and they raised Payton and his siblings together.

Anthony Mathias is Payton’s Pritchard’s older brother. Anthony became part of the Pritchard family when Payton's parents became his legal guardians while Mathis was in sixth grade.

Anthony is also a professional basketball player who played alongside Payton at West Linn High School and later at Oregon University. Before playing for Oregon in the 2019-2020 season, Anthony played college basketball at New Mexico from 2015 to 2019.

Anthony went undrafted in 2020 and subsequently had stints in the G League, Europe (including Sweden and Romania), and the Canadian League before joining Estonia's Kalev/Cramo.

Taylor Pritchard
