Since joining the Brooklyn Nets in 2019, Nic Claxton has made strides towards becoming a top-level defensive basketball player. Claxton entered the league as a lanky, nearly seven feet tall center who possessed guard-like skills plus the height advantage.

Being tall and agile allowed him to effectively guard opponents both below the rim and at the perimeter. His quickness allows him to be efficient on offense & defense, switch positions seamlessly, and display top-quality athleticism during games.

Claxton’s scouting report and multiple experts praised these very qualities of his game but expressed criticism on his thin frame which at times has got him dominated, particularly in the paint against stronger Power forwards and Centers. They also criticized his subpar three-point and free throw shooting.

Despite being relatively lean compared to other centers in the league, Claxton compensates with tremendous strength and tenacity and has shifted his overall game to playing near the post which has worked to improve his scoring efficiency and mitigate inaccuracies related to long-range shooting.

Being one of the main fixtures in the Nets team has brought Claxton recognition and a ton of money.
