Nicholas David Nurse, known as Nick Nurse, is an American professional basketball coach who was born in Carroll, Iowa. Nurse played college basketball at the University of Northern Iowa, where he became the school’s all-time 3-point percentage leader, at 46.8%.

After completing his graduation, Nurse took the role of player-coach for a team in the British Basketball League. That was the only season Nurse played the sport professionally. After a year in the BBL, Nurse decided to pursue coaching full-time.

In 1991, Nurse got his first job as head coach at the college level. He was 23 when he first became head coach at the Grand View University. After coaching the team for two seasons, he returned to the BBL, where he spent 13 years.

After gaining enough experience in coaching, Nurse accepted the head coaching offer by the Iowa Energy. The team was special to Nurse as it was his home state. The Iowa Energy were a new team just starting in the NBA G-League when Nurse got the offer. Here, he led the team to two NBA G-League championships (then known as the D-League).

After 24 years of coaching experience, Nurse started his journey in the NBA. Being selected as an assistant coach for the Toronto Raptors, Nurse was given the task of improving the offence. He became the Raptors’ head coach in 2018 and won the championship with superstar Kawhi Leonard in his second season.

After difficulties with the management and the pandemic, the Raptors had to let go of Nurse after the 2023 season. Nurse is now hired as the head coach for the Philadelphia 76ers and is looking to start the 2024 season on a strong note.

Nick Nurse is a remarkable coach with plenty of experience. He is one of the legendary head coaches in the sport and has left a mark in the league.
