Despite going undrafted in 2013, Covington was signed by the Houston Rockets on a three year contract, but he was soon sent to the NBA G League, then known as the NBA Development League (NBA D-League), to refine his skills with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the Rockets' affiliate team.

Undeterred by this, Covington seized the opportunity to showcase his talent on the D League stage. Covington's terrific display earned him the NBA D-League All-Star Game MVP honor and solidified his status as a rising star in the league.

On November 15, 2014, Covington's perseverance paid off when he signed a reported five-year contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. Since then, he has established himself as one of the premier 3-and-D role players in the NBA, known for his defensive prowess and sharpshooting abilities.

Today, Covington's success story serves as a testament to the power of determination and resilience. Despite going undrafted and spending time in the G League, Covington's relentless efforts propelled him to NBA stardom.
