Rui Hachimura is a professional Japanese basketball player who plays in the NBA for the Los Angeles Lakers as of April 2025. Hachimura was born on February 8, 1998, in Toyama, Japan. In his childhood, he used to play both basketball and baseball as a catcher and a pitcher. He played basketball in Japan throughout his high school years and for the Gonzaga Bulldogs in the United States. He also represented Japan in the 2013 FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship in Iran. Despite initially wanting to skip, he is now a member of the Japan National Basketball Team and most recently played for Japan in the Paris 2024 Men's Olympic Basketball Tournament.

Hachimura was drafted as the 9th overall pick in the first round of the 2019 NBA draft by the Washington Wizards. After playing three seasons, he joined the Lakers midseason in his fourth NBA season. As of April 15, 2025, he has averaged 12.8 points, 4.9 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game in 337 NBA regular-season games.
