Sterling “Scoot” Henderson is an American professional basketball player. He was born on February 3, 2004, in Marietta, Georgia, United States. Scoot currently plays for the NBA G League Ignite of the NBA G League. Scoot went to Carlton J. Kell High School in Marietta. At high school, he played alongside his older brother, CJ Henderson. During his second year, Scoot scored a career-high 49 points in a game against Miller Grove High School in the Class 5A state tournament. He averaged 24 points, three assists, six rebounds and three steals per game.
On January 22, 2021, Scoot recorded 53 points in a match over Osborne High School. Throughout the season, he averaged 32 points, six assists and seven rebounds per game. After this season, he left high school and decided to play professional basketball.
While playing in high school, Scoot caught the attention of NCAA Division I programs. He got his first Division I scholarship from the Ole Miss Rebels men’s basketball team. On May 21, 2021, he reclassified to the 2021 class and became an NBA G League Ignite team member. Scoot started his professional career with this team.
Professional Career
On May 21, 2021, Scoot Henderson began his professional basketball with the NBA G League Ignite. He missed many starting games of the regular season due to a rib injury. On November 17, 2021, he played his first game of the season against the South Bay Lakers.
Scoot Henderson became the youngest player in the G League History to play professional basketball at age 17. In February 2022, he played in the Rising Stars Challenge at NBA All-Star Weekend. Throughout the 2021-22 season, Scoot played in 10 exhibition games and 11 G League Showcase Cups. He averaged 14.3 points, 4,8 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game.
In October 2022, Scoot played for his team in a pair of exhibition games over Victor Wembanyama and Metropolitans 92. On October 6, he suffered from a bone bruise in his right knee. During the 2022-23 season, Scoot became the captain of Team Scoot for the G league’s inaugural Next Up Game.
