Zach Collins is a talented American professional basketball player who plays as a backup center behind Victor Wembanyama for the San Antonio Spurs.

Collins started his basketball journey at Bishop Gorman High School in Summerlin, Nevada, where he played a pivotal role in leading his team to four consecutive state championships. In his senior season, Collins averaged a terrific 17.3 points, 14.0 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 6.4 blocks per game.

His stellar high school performances earned him accolades such as the most valuable player of Nevada's Southwest League and the Nevada Gatorade Player of the Year award. Collins also set records for most rebounds and blocked shots in a single season in Nevada.

Upon graduating high school as a highly coveted five-star recruit, Collins played one season with Gonzaga University and won the NCAA Championship in 2017. Despite initially coming off the bench, Collins quickly established himself as a force to be reckoned with, particularly excelling as a center alongside senior Przemek Karnowski.

During the 2016–17 collegiate season, Collins averaged 10.0 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks per game in limited playing time. His standout performance came in the national semifinal game of the 2017 NCAA March Madness, where he scored 14 points, grabbed 13 rebounds, and had six blocks, propelling Gonzaga to their first-ever national championship game victory.

Following his successful college career, Collins declared for the 2017 NBA Draft, where he was selected 10th overall by the Sacramento Kings. However, he was then traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. In his first two seasons in the NBA, Collins displayed his raw potential. His strength in post-up plays and great defense was evident from the get-go as he established himself as a promising two-way young big.

However, Collins faced a setback during the 2020/21 NBA season when he missed the entire campaign due to a malleolus stress fracture. Despite this setback, Collins remained resilient and was subsequently traded to the San Antonio Spurs in 2021, where he continues to make strides in his professional career.
