Martinez played football at Lewisville High School, as he was raised in Lewisville, Texas. On 532 carries, he ran for 4,341 yards and 66 touchdowns. In addition to winning District MVP and District Offensive Player of the Year, he was an all-state and all-district running back. Martinez chose Oregon State over Georgia Tech, Kansas, San Diego State, and Texas State to kickstart his collegiate football career.

Damien Martinez’s Career

Martinez had an outstanding rookie season in 2022. He had a slow start as he rushed for 340 yards and two touchdowns on 57 carries in the first seven games of the season. But in a victory over Colorado in his eighth game, Martinez exploded, rushing for 178 yards and three touchdowns on 22 carries. Martinez received the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award for his performance against Colorado.

After rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns against Arizona State on November 21, and gaining 15 carries for 103 yards in a 38–34 victory over Oregon in a rivalry game, Martinez went on to win the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week award twice.

Throughout the year, Martinez achieved several accolades for his efforts. He was selected to the first team All-Pac 12 and won the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year award. He was also named a freshman all-American by College Football News.

He made the All-Pac-12 First Team, Phil Steele All-Pac-12 Second Team, Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Semifinalist, and Doak Walker Award Semifinalist in his sophomore year. Martinez ran for 1,185 yards on 194 carries, a 6.1-yard average, while starting 12 games. At Oregon State, his 1,185 yards rank 13th for a single season.
