Jalen Milroe is a quarterback and played the 2024 CFB season as a redshirt junior for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Milroe was Alabama's freshman quarterback backup for the entire 2021 campaign and thus was red-shirted. He appeared in four games during the season, running for 57 yards on 15 carries and throwing three passes for 41 yards and a touchdown. Milroe in the 2022 season was Bryce Young's backup. He threw 11 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown in the spring game for Alabama. He had eight completions for 76 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in his season debut.
Following an injury to Bryce Young in week four against Arkansas, he made a few brief outings in relief against Louisiana Monroe and Vanderbilt, eventually taking over at quarterback. Alabama won 49-26 with touchdown passes from Milroe, and a week later, he started his first game of the season against Texas A&M, winning 24-20 while throwing three touchdowns and collecting three turnovers. Young's departure for the 2023 season meant that Tyler Buchner and Ty Simpson competed with Milroe for Alabama's starting quarterback position. Ultimately, Milroe was chosen to start. Milroe combined for five touchdowns, two passing and two rushing, while throwing for 194 yards on 13 completions to lead Alabama to a 56-7 victory over Middle Tennessee. For the match against the University of South Florida (USF), Tyler Buchner replaced Milroe as the team's starting quarterback. Later, Nick Saban announced that Milroe would start at quarterback for the rest of the season following Buchner's poor performance against USF the week before, which led to Alabama's Southeastern Conference (SEC) opening against Ole Miss the following week.
