Kirby Smart has been the head coach for the Georgia Bulldogs since December 2015. He was a defensive back for Georgia Bulldogs and Indianapolis Colts from 1995-1999. As a coach, Smart led the Bulldogs to many honors, he guided the team to back-to-back College Football Playoff National Championships in 2021 and 2022. Smart took the Georgia Bulldogs to the College Football Playoff championship game in 2017 and won the Southeastern Conference (SEC) Championships twice, in 2017 and 2022. Kirby earned six SEC Eastern Division championships and six New Year’s Six bowl victories with a 94-16 overall record. Before his time at Bulldogs, he was Assistant head coach at Alabama and led the team to multiple national championships as their defensive coordinator. During his time at Alabama, Smart won the 2012 AFCA Assistant Coach of the Year award and the 2009 Broyles Award for the nation's top assistant.
Kirby Smart began his coaching career in 1999 as an administrative assistant before gaining experience at some of the top programs, including Valdosta State, LSU, and the NFL's Miami Dolphins. Smart joined Alabama's staff as the defensive assistant in 2007 and was promoted to the defensive coordinator position. He was an integral part of Alabama's success, as Smart helped the team win three BCS National Championships and one CFP National Championship. Smart returned to his alma mater, Georgia, in 2015 as the head coach. Since then, Smart led the team to back-to-back CFP National Championships and has established a solid foundation for the program’s future.
