Leavitt initially committed to Michigan State University, where he played during the 2023 season. In his short time there, he appeared in four games, completing 15 of 23 passes for 139 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions. However, after one season, he decided to transfer to Arizona State University. In 2024, Leavitt became the starting quarterback for the Sun Devils. Over the course of twelve regular-season games, he amassed 2,444 passing yards and threw for 21 touchdowns against five interceptions. His performance was instrumental in leading ASU to a 10-2 record and a spot in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game. Leavitt's standout game came during the championship match against Iowa State, where he threw for 219 yards and three touchdowns, contributing to a 45-19 victory that secured the title for Arizona State, its first in program history.
